In this chapter I want to review journal, the tittle of journal is Designing for communication at work: A case for technology-enhanced boundary objects.


In sociocultural and cultural-historical theory, challenges in communication between practices often occur conceptualized within boundaries (Engestro¨m, 2001; Wenger, 2000). In this paper we are very interested in the challenges in communication that arise because of the mathematical nature of the topic and means of communication. We choose to focus on the topic of mortgage pricing and communities around and within large mortgage companies. First
The purpose of this paper is to get more insight into the boundaries that arise between various communities around mathematical artifacts. In particular, we propose Question 1: How can we characterize the challenges in communication between sales agents and mortgage company customers around mathematical artifacts?
The literature does not only focus on problems because of cross-border differences, but also claims the potential for learning at the boundary between community practices (eg, Wenger, 2000) or systems of activity (Engestro¨m, 2001). At Engestro¨m
Boundary Crossing Laboratories, contradictions between system activities are used to create new objects that allow for practice transformation and learning (see also Kerosuo & Toiviainen, 2011). Apart from a number of such laboratories, interventions have been carried out to exploit the potential of learning through a cross-border approach with serious interactions.
It seems reasonable that the cross-border approach between employees and ourselves as researchers in mathematics education, which focuses on symbolic artifacts and mediation through technology, can produce alternative results for teaching 'direct teaching' from the mathematics behind work products or processes (Hoyles, Noss, Kent, & Bakker, 2010). Therefore, the second objective of this paper is to explore the learning potential at the boundary between employees.
